Christmas 2025

Dear Neighbor,

When Jesus was born on earth over 2000 years ago in the tiny little town of Bethlehem, He was born a king. The prophecies of the Old Testament predicted this. Here are three examples:

  • A Scepter shall arise out of Israel. (Numbers 24:17)
  • I will raise up to David a just, Growing Branch, and a King shall reign and act with intelligence, and shall do judgment and justice in the earth. (Jeremiah 23:5)
  • And Jehovah shall be for a king over all the earth; in that day Jehovah shall be one, and His name one. (Zechariah 14:9)

When the wisemen came to see the infant Jesus, they asked, “Where is He who is born King of the Jews?” Then they humbly presented gifts to Him as they would to a king. Even the very names the Messiah and the Christ mean “the One Anointed to be King” in Hebrew and Greek, respectively, as kings were anointed with oil from ancient times.

This Christmas, it can help us draw closer to the Lord Jesus Christ when we follow Him as our King. Not as a king of this world, for He said in the Scriptures, “My kingdom is not of this world” (John 18:36), but as the King of kings (Rev. 19:16), who leads us to heaven as a hero of battle against hell. Whenever we struggle with sin, the Lord Jesus Christ is our King who can lead us to victory over hell if we rely on Him. As it says in the Psalms, “Who is this King of glory? Jehovah, strong and a Hero, Jehovah, a Hero of battle” (Psalm 24: 8).

This is the kind of king He was born on earth to be—a hero of battle, fighting on our behalf against hell.

If you would like to learn more about how the Lord Jesus Christ is our King, consider visiting us at the Kempton New Church for services on Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m. And if you would like to join us as we celebrate the birth of the Lord God our Savior Jesus Christ at our Christmas worship service, I would love to see you. It will be held on Christmas Eve—Wednesday, December 24, at 5:00 p.m.

Merry Christmas!
